Club History

America was formed on December 12, 1976 as a local club in Canton, Ohio over eggs and toast at a local Brown Derby restaurant. The control members were named and the club was formed. A control member is a member who issues numbers, educates new sidebanders, and helps teach them the legalities and proper use of sideband radio. America went so well that after only two weeks it went state wide. Other states became interested. First West Virginia, then Pennsylvania, then more and more states. We then went national. We are now represented in 30 states, with over 17,000 members. The 9 America Club now has over 1,600 members. Fletcher - 9 America 11 has been the control member for the club since it's birth in N.H. in the mid 70's. In September of 1993, Fletch decided to retire as control member where he served for nearly 20 years, and also a control member of the New Hampshire Sideband Club during those years, and I, Jon - 9 America 600 was asked if I was up to the task. I of course accepted. I would like to thank Fletcher for the many years of hard work and dedication that he has shown to this club. I have very big shoes to fill. Thanks Fletch and good luck!!!!
